During the Icelandic geologic era, Mount Sneffels was named after the volcano Snæfel which is situated on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. This mountain and its glacier which caps its crater like a convex lens were featured in Jules Verne's book - Journey to the centre of the earth. Furthermore, this mountain is often described as Colorado's best and most beautiful mountain. Several travelers and nature enthusiasts are awed by the beauty of this mountain. The first ascent was made by Allen D. Wilson, Frederic Endlich, Ford, and Franklin Rhoda on the 10th of September, 1874. When viewed from Dallas Drive, this Mount Sneffels features symmetry, spires, pinnacles, exposed ridgelines, and gorgeous slopes of aspens.

Elevation
