Longs Peak was named after Major Stephen Harriman Long - an American army officer and explorer. He encountered it in 1820 but didn't climb the peak. Besides, the first ascent recorded was on the 23rd of August, 1868, by John Wesley Powell and Party. Again, the first woman to ascend the mountain's trailhead was Addie Alexander in 1871

Further, Longs Peak is known as the highest point in Boulder County and Rocky Mountain National Park. It is also the northernmost fourteener in the Rocky Mountains.
