Mt Oxford is a challenging mountain to climb. Occasionally, the mountain is climbed after hiking through Mt Belford. In particular, Mt Oxford is popular among hikers since many hikers like to bag Mt Belford after climbing Mt Oxford. Besides, this mountain has close ties to the Missouri Fourteeners. Additionally, Mount Oxford was named in honor of Oxford University. In 1931, it was named after the traditions of naming mountains after prestigious colleges (such as Columbia and Harvard in that region).
