Mount Belford is one of the heavily trafficked mountains in Colorado. This mountain was named after a Colorado representative - James B.Belford. This man was the Red-Headed Rooster of the Rockies. The mountain is preferred among other mountains due to its intriguing appearance and closeness to two other amazing fourteeners; Mount Oxford and Mount Missouri. In addition, it's straightforward through the magnificent Missouri Gulch. Interestingly, its origin could be traced to Mount Harvard. Belford is a fun and easy peak to climb. Moreover, the series of switchbacks on the Missouri Gulch route makes it adventurous and tasking.

Main Trail Length


Mount Belford has two different trail routes; The Northwest Ridge trail (main trail) and the Northwest Gully trail. Both Trails are linked to the Missouri Gulch Trailhead and are used to get to neighboring 14ers - Mount Oxford and Missouri Mountain. The Northwest Ridge trail is an 11.3 km heavily trafficked out and back trail.

It is near Buena Vista, Leadville, and the ghost town of Vicksburg. Moreover, this high mountain summit is located 15.0 miles (24.1 km) northwest by the west (at 307°) of Buena Vista, Colorado.
