Heavenly ski resort gets its name from the natives from that area that found the area to be a little piece of paradise. Situated on the border of California and Nevada on the perimeter of Lake Tahoe, the slopes of these tall peaks are a land of plenty. With glorious views of Lake Tahoe, the ski resort provides access to some of the most scenic terrain in the USA.
The ski resort at Heavenly first opened in 1955 with one chair lift and two towbar lifts. With its proximity to Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Ski Resort was a pioneering ski area offering world-class runs with spectacular views to thrill-seeking travelers from all over the world. The resort grew steadily over the years. In 1968, the Heavenly opened its Nevada side, becoming the first ski resort to span two states. More recently, a gondola was built to connect the town of South Lake Tahoe to the ski area. The gondola provides year-round access to the stunning views of Lake Tahoe from the base of the ski area. Finally, since 2002, the resort has been owned and operated by Vail Resorts, who has reinvigorated the resort and town with a new infusion of capital.
The resort has become a model for year-round recreational activity. With roughly 4,800 acres of steep and adventurous terrain, 30 lifts, an adventure park, and an incredible trail system, Heavenly has something to offer everyone. But with all that terrain to take advantage you might need a little help with the navigation!
