Park City Ski Resort
While many ski resorts are situated alongside former mining communities, Park City Mountain Resort is the only resort to truly be built on top of an extensive mining operation. The original owner – United Park City Mines – converted the mountain to a ski resort in 1963 as the profits from mining operations dwindled. Over the next 30 years the resort grew steadily into a very large mountain resort.
In 2002, Park City Mountain Resort hosted the Winter Olympics, pushing Utah and Park City into the eyes of the world as a world-class skiing destination. Park City built multiple additional venues to accommodate a total of just under 100,000 live spectators.
By 2015, under new ownership of Vail Resorts, Park City and Canyons were officially joined together by the Quicksilver Gondola. This made Park City Mountain Resort the largest ski resort in the USA at 7,300 skiable acres. This amount of unique terrain, combined with the village areas at Park City and Canyons Village, makes for one of the top picks for skiers and snowboarders of all types and abilities.
