Mount Evans is named after Governor John Evans - the instigator of the Sand Creek Massacre. Originally, this Mountain was known as Mount Rosa or Mount Rosalie. Significantly, Mount Evans is the highest Peak in a massif which is 56 kilometers west of Denver. Besides, this Peak is North America’s highest Peak and the 41st United States’ highest major Peaks. Furthermore, Mount Evans can be seen 160 kilometers to the East.
