Mount Evans is named after Governor John Evans - the instigator of the Sand Creek Massacre. Originally, this Mountain was known as Mount Rosa or Mount Rosalie. Significantly, Mount Evans is the highest Peak in a massif which is 56 kilometers west of Denver. Besides, this Peak is North America’s highest Peak and the 41st United States’ highest major Peaks.
