As the name suggests, "El Diente" is the Spanish translation of "Tooth" which refers to the peak's shape. It is located in the Lizard Head Wilderness of San Juan National Forest, 10.5 miles (16.9 km) to the northeast (bearing 8°) of Rico in Dolores County, Colorado, United States. Interestingly, as there are only 239 feet of prominence between the mountain and neighboring Mount Wilson, Mount El Diente isn't considered a separate peak under the 300-foot prominence rule. Furthermore, depending on where you start, you can hike from Mt Wilson to El Diente Peak or vice-versa. Also, this mountain is considered a difficult-to-climb fourteener due to its loose rocks and objective dangers.
