Wilson Peak was named after A.D. Wilson - chief topographer with the Hayden Survey. The indigenous name for Wilson's Peak was Shandoka, which translates "Storm Maker" as a reference to the mountain's effect on local weather patterns and seasonal changes. Amazingly, Wilson Peak is in the western part of the San Juan Mountains. Besides, it is Colorado's 48th fourteener and the 19th Colorado county high points. Again, Wilson Peak features in many television advertisements like the Coors Brewing Company and more. The easiest route to this high mountain summit is via the southwest ridge from the silver peak or Navajo basin.
